- A Nice Weekend Ahead

High pressure and a drier air mass have brought clearer skies to
the area resulting in more sunshine. We`ll see mostly clear to
partly cloudy skies overnight with lows mainly in the teens. A
couple of shortwave troughs will move through as the upper level
ridge departs bringing some increased cloud cover, but still
expect some peaks of sunshine. Saturday will be a little breezy
within the southwest flow and the low level jet overhead.
Southwest winds gusting 25 to 35 mph are expected through the
afternoon. Highs through the weekend are expected to be in the
30s.

- Chances for Rain and Snow with Warmer Temperatures

With the parade of shortwave troughs moving through next week, our
moisture will gradually increase. Some chances for rain (20 to 40
percent) exist with the troughs moving through Sunday night into
Monday and Monday night into Tuesday. Some snow may mix in mainly
north of I-96 Sunday night. With the quick movement of these
systems any measurable precipitation will be light as shown in the
ensembles with probabilities of greater than 0.05" in the 30 to 50
percent range and only 20 percent for greater than a tenth of an
inch.

Attention then turns to the Wednesday/Thursday timeframe as a
deeper, stronger trough moves through resulting in some slightly
higher chances (40 to 60 percent) for rain transitioning to snow.
There are some differences in the timing and moisture profile so
expect some tweaks to the forecast this far out. Either way this
trough looks to bring another period of colder temperatures, so
enjoy the warmth while it lasts.

An area of MVFR cloud cover existed from KMKG inland to KGRR.
Model forecasts suggest it could last a few hours before
diminishing as it moves inland. Afterwards, the low levels will be
relatively dry so VFR weather is expected to prevail. The winds
will be gusty, especially during the day on Saturday as the
pressure gradient tightens up and mixing heights increase. Peak
gusts may occasionally top 25 knots.
